Join us for an evening with Master Drummer & Percussionist Bill Summers as he introduces music from his debut Afro-Diasporic Musical Segun the Drummer Boy and new album Forward Back.
Creating music with a purpose, Bill Summers and longtime friend Scott Roberts (One Drop Scott) introduce Forward Back. A concept of music that takes the world on a journey BACK into traditional instruments to move the culture FORWARD by unearthing the rhythmic relationship between Africa, the Caribbean, and America.
Built around African tradition: Summers plays three drums (bata), representing Father, Mother, and Child on each track. The call and response is a conversation, a reflection and a representation of mutual respect. The message exists to restore responsibility and duty to family for the Black American community that has been separated from family and tradition.
The May 4th showcase will feature both Bill Summers and Scott “One Drop” Roberts as well as solo vocalist, poet, healer Simoné Mosely, former NFL player, rap artist, and producer Reggie Stephens AKA Reggae Steel Bon, Rock & Reggae singer J-Willz, pianist Lerin Williams, John Wooten on steel pans, and the incredible Jamal Batiste on drums.
Forward Back’s collective experiences have created a sound that is ancient and new. "You can Listen to it, Dance to it, Pray to it, Smoke to it & Heal with it."
