Ashé Cultural Arts Center is hosting an advance film screening of New Orleans own author and film director Jason Berry's documentary, City of a Million Dreams, on Saturday, October 21, 6:30 PM at Ashé Power House Theater.
The film explores the legacy of New Orleans' jazz funerals and second-line parades over a twenty-five year period through exclusive interviews, vintage photos and films, and historical re-creations of enslaved Africans burial dances. This documentary traces the evolution of rituals and traditions from the late 18th century to today, from the African rhythms and ring dances of Congo Square, European marching bands, Sicilian brass bands and early 20th-century jazz musicians to the present-day’s second-line processions. City of a Million Dreams draws from the 2018 book of the same title by Jason Berry.
