Join us for a special Juneteenth Father’s Day celebration honoring Jerome “Big Duck” Smith and other Fathers of the Movement!
The celebration is also to congratulate Dr. Smith who received two honorary doctorate degrees this year from Southern University and Xavier University! Meet us outside the historic Carver Theater Sunday, June 19th at 4:30pm for a secondline to Hunter’s Field where we’ll honor men who have made countless contributions to the culture and committed their lives to community care!
Honoring Fathers of the Movement: A Juneteenth Celebration will feature performances by Roots of Music, Spirit & Sparrow ft. Jasmine Butler, the Tamborine & Fan youth, DJ Bigg Cheeez and more!
Honorees include Fathers of the Movement — Jerome "Big Duck" Smith, Don Hubbard, Bob Moses (posthumously), Judge Calvin Johnson, Fred Johnson, Matt "Flukie" Suarez, Robert Jones, Edwin C. Williams (posthumously), Kevin Griffin-Clark, and New Orleans Favorite Fathers 2022 — Royce Duplessis, Mannie King, Sundiata Haley, J.C. Celestin and Yusef Safiyallah Joseph.
It’s free and open to the public, so let’s take it to the streets for the Fathers of the Movement and New Orleans Favorite Fathers to celebrate how they showed up and showed out for our people, especially our youth!
